If you were looking to host a blog, and nothing else on that domain, would you go for one of the companies that only host blogs and that are semi set up with templates and so on? Or would you just go for your own hosting and set it all up yourself?
It is always recommend to go for your own domain and blog setup on that one.
You have full control over templates, plugins plus you're creating your own identity there.
All the major control panels allow you to setup Wordpress in a few clicks so as long as teh host has that then you're good to go. But even if they don't, installing Wordpress and your own theme is very easy.
