I'm looking at some servers here and they offer Red Hat, Fedora, Ubuntu, Gentoo, CentOS 4 & 5, OpenSuse, :confused4Which one should I go with? I'd suppose they're all pretty much the same when it comes to hosting?
It really depends on you. If you had been working with Redhat before, then choose it.
Or you may also opt for Fedora or Centos. These 3 distros are alike anyway. But, based on experience, for easy onfiguration and installation I would always
prefer any of the these; RedHat, Fedora, Centos or Ubuntu over Gentoo and OpenSuse.
It depends on your usage . If you think that you can work efficiently with Red hat then go for it. Ifnot opt for the best which you can work effieciently. I think Red hat wiill be the best in case of security aspects.
I am agree with both of you guys, it depends upon your usage, if you have worked with RedHat previously then go for it, because for easy configuration its good.
I'm also one for CentOS. jason, if you're going to be running a control panel on the server (such as cPanel) and not doing the administration through ssh, then I'd recommend that you go with whichever OS is best supported by the control panel.
I recommend CentOS, as it is the most popular distro in the web hosting industry.
